Article: The Biggest Creative Shift of Our Lifetime

The Biggest Creative Shift of Our Lifetime

I Thought I Was Watching The Devil Wears Prada 2. Instead, I Ended Up Thinking About the Future.

A few months ago, when I heard The Devil Wears Prada 2 was coming out, my fashionable friends and I had a whole plan.

We were going to dress up.

Go opening night.

Maybe wear fabulous shoes we'd regret two hours later.

Take pictures.

Make an event out of it.

You know...the fantasy.

Then life happened.

Kids.

Work.

Practices.

Emails.

Design deadlines.

The glamorous movie night quietly disappeared from the calendar.

So last night, months later, I finally watched it from my couch while scrolling Disney+.

And honestly?

That might have been even more fitting.

Because before the movie even started, I found myself thinking...

"Wait...how is this already on Disney?"

Doesn't it feel like just yesterday we'd wait forever for movies to leave the theater?

Now they're in our living rooms before we've even had a chance to coordinate schedules with our friends.

Everything is moving so unbelievably fast.

And that's exactly what this movie ended up being about for me.

Not fashion.

Change.

The Devil Wears Prada 2' Review: The Cost of Ambition

I've seen quite a few people say they didn't like the movie because "nothing really happened."

I actually had the opposite reaction.

I loved it.

Not because of the storyline.

But because I think it captured something we're all living through right now.

Especially those of us in creative industries.

Fashion.

Photography.

Journalism.

Art.

Marketing.

Design.

We're watching our worlds change almost overnight.

I don't work at Vogue.

I've never sat front row at Paris Fashion Week with Anna Wintour.

But I know what disruption feels like.

For years, our campaigns looked like what you'd expect.

Flights to Argentina.

Weeks of planning.

Mood boards.

Photographers.

Hair.

Makeup.

Models.

Locations.

Renting a boat on the Tigre Delta.

Hours chasing perfect lighting.

Thousands of dollars.

Then another week editing everything afterward.

Some of my favorite memories happened on those shoots.

Some of my biggest headaches too.

If you've ever worked with hungry models standing in the hot sun for eight hours...

Well...

Let's just say everyone was ready for dinner by the end of the day.

There was something magical about those shoots.

There was also something incredibly expensive about them.

As a small business owner, every campaign represented months of work and a pretty terrifying investment.

Today?

Sometimes I create campaign concepts before I've even finished my morning coffee.

That sentence still feels ridiculous to write.

I can imagine something.

Describe it.

Watch AI sketch it.

Adjust it.

Restyle it.

Try another version.

All before I would've even finished setting up lights on one of our old shoots.

That's insane.

And also...

Kind of amazing.

I know a lot of creatives are mourning this shift.

I understand it.

I really do.

There is an art to photography.

To styling.

To waiting for the perfect light.

To the chemistry that happens between a photographer and a model.

AI doesn't replace that.

It can't.

It doesn't have intuition.

It doesn't know why one image gives you goosebumps while another one feels flat.

It doesn't know what confidence looks like.

It certainly doesn't know how a belt can completely change the way a woman stands.

That's still human.

But what AI does replace...

Is a shocking amount of time.

And I don't think we talk enough about that.

Because time is actually the most expensive thing small business owners have.

Another part of the movie stayed with me.

Andy pours herself into writing.

Beautiful writing.

Thoughtful writing.

And almost nobody reads it.

Ouch.

That one hit home.

Sometimes I'll spend three or four hours writing one of these posts.

I'll rewrite paragraphs.

Delete entire sections.

Second-guess every sentence.

Only to remember that most people—including you, if we're being honest—are probably reading this while standing in line at Starbucks or waiting for your daughter's soccer practice to end.

Our attention spans have changed.

Not because we're lazy.

Because we're overwhelmed.

Every second we're competing with millions of videos, articles, newsletters, podcasts and now AI-generated everything.

It's exhausting.

Sometimes heartbreaking.

But it's also reality.

And here's the irony.

I wrote this article with AI sitting beside me.

Not writing it for me.

Writing it with me.

It caught my grammar.

Helped untangle my thoughts.

Asked better questions than I was asking myself.

That's pretty incredible.

It didn't replace my voice.

It helped me hear it more clearly.

And maybe that's what this new era is really asking of us.

Not to fight technology.

Not to surrender to it either.

But to collaborate with it.

That's actually why I loved the ending of the movie so much.

Without giving anything away...

Miranda and Andy stop seeing each other as opponents.

They recognize they're stronger when they evolve together.

That feels like where we are right now.

Not just in fashion.

Everywhere.

So now I want to ask you something.

This is where I think AI becomes incredibly fun.

If you've ever imagined the perfect belt...

The one that pulls an outfit together.

Defines your waist.

Makes a simple white shirt suddenly feel intentional.

Describe it to me.

Seriously.

Maybe you've never been able to draw it.

Now you don't have to.

You can describe it.

AI can sketch it.

And maybe...

Just maybe...

I'll be the one who makes it.

If you're looking for inspiration, you can browse some of our customer favorites like the Classic Wrap Collection, our Jean Belt Collection, or our newest Statement Styles.

But I'd honestly rather hear about the one that doesn't exist yet.

Because maybe the future of fashion isn't designers sitting alone in studios anymore.

Maybe it's all of us creating together.

My Final Thoughts (for the skimmers)

If there's one thing The Devil Wears Prada 2 reminded me, it's that the future of fashion isn't about choosing between artistry and artificial intelligence—it's about learning how to use both.

Paparazzi & Fans Leak Behind-The-Scenes Footage From 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' – The Feature Presentation

As a fashion designer and small business owner, I've experienced the transition from printed catalogs and week-long photo shoots to AI-generated concepts, digital campaigns, and faster creative workflows. While I understand why so many photographers, journalists, stylists, and artists miss the old way of creating, I also believe AI gives independent designers and entrepreneurs opportunities we never had before.

For me, the most valuable part of AI isn't replacing creativity—it's giving us more time to be creative. More time to design. More time to connect with customers. More time to build beautiful products with intention.

That's exactly how I plan to use it.

And I'd love for you to be part of that journey.

If you've ever imagined the perfect belt—the one that defines your waist, elevates a simple outfit, or adds just the right finishing touch—leave me a comment or send me a message. Describe your dream belt, even if you can't draw it. Today we can sketch ideas with AI, refine them together, and maybe one day turn them into a handcrafted leather belt.

In the meantime, if you're looking for inspiration, explore some of our most-loved collections, including our Wrap Belts, Jean Belts, and Statement Belts. Who knows? Your dream design might already be waiting for you—or it might become the next one we create together.

After all, the future of fashion isn't something we simply watch happen.

It's something we get to design together.
